Serious Wilderness

Why WRO?

Professional & personable guides

Safety

Safety is paramount on our river trips and WRO guides exercise exceptional judgment to ensure your wilderness experience is memorable for all the right reasons. All of our guides are trained in backcountry travel, wilderness medicine, and river rescue. We use top of the line equipment and maintain it throughout the season.

Experience

Our guides average between 10 to 30 years of professional river experience and many have been with us their entire career.

Attitude

Love rivers, love life is our mantra. WRO guides are willing to show you exactly what makes these wild places truly unique and special.

Access to the best wilderness rivers

We are proud to offer the best selection of wilderness river vacations in the Northwest. From the narrow canyons of the Owyhee and Middle Fork Salmon to the extraordinary glaciated river valleys of the Alsek and Tatshenshini Rivers in Alaska and Canada, we bring you to the secret, remote corners of the West. Check out the WRO Grand Slam Club, these people know how special our trips are!

More than a vacation

Personal experiences

We offer customized and flexible trips without the hassle and stress of a traditional vacation. Our laid-back style will have you relaxed in no time.

Be a part of the adventure

Participation in every facet of the trip is encouraged and welcomed. Want to learn how to cook in a Dutch oven, row a rapid, identify birds, or master your fly-fishing cast? We feel most people enjoy a little physical challenge and we want you to take advantage of our knowledge and years of experience. Join in the action or just sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself. It’s up to you!

Personal attention

Low guest to guide ratio allows us to cater to a variety of interests within our group. Many of the rivers we run are located in such pristine parts of the country that group size is limited to lessen impact on the canyon. We do our best to let the interests of the group decide the flow of activities. Our trips feel like a bunch of old friends getting together!

The WRO family

You’ll begin the trip as our guest but end the trip a friend. We don’t just guide you through little known treasures of Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Alaska and Canada, we share it with you. If you love rivers, we’re pretty sure you’re going to love us.

How should you choose a trip?

You’ll enjoy the personal WRO touch on any of our trips, but some may appeal more to your individual interests. Try our WRO experience filters, or if you are still having a hard time deciding, give us a call at 208-756-3959 and we will be happy to talk with you and make a suggestion. Some of our popular dates book early, so give us a call soon to reserve the trip of your choice.
