The Salmon River Canyon is one of the deepest in North America, second only to Hells Canyon, and you'll get to see it from top to bottom on our 9-day hiking and rafting trip. We'll start our hike high in the wilderness north of the Salmon River. The trailhead at Salmon Mt. is 8,943 feet in elevation and has spectacular views of the Salmon and Selway River drainages, with mountains surrounding us on all sides.

We'll be hiking about 6 to 8 miles a day for the next four days. The trail leads us along scenic ridges, past mountain lakes and through lush meadows. The fishing at Swet Lake and Lost Packer can be excellent, and there is a good chance to see moose, elk, deer, mountain goat, and bear. On the last day of the hike we will descend into the Salmon River Canyon and meet the rafts.

Nothing feels better than a dip in the river after a few days on the trail. We'll spend the next 5 days enjoying life on the river, with rapids, hot springs, historic cabins, and big sandy beaches to camp and lounge on. You can check out our Salmon River page to learn more about this part of the trip.
