Middle Fork of the Salmon River Sample Itinerary

Day before the trip: Arrive in Stanley, Idaho. We’ll get together in the evening to hand out gear and go over any last minute details.

Day 1: We’ll depart around 8AM and have a 2-hour drive to the Boundary Creek launch site. After a safety talk and orientation we’ll begin our journey.

* August 4 and August 20 trips will launch from Indian Creek, 22 miles down river from Boundary Creek. The only access to this site is by plane. Our flights will leave from Stanley at around 8AM. There is a $75 charge for the flight.

Day 2-5: We’ll be relaxing, running rapids, fishing, hiking, soaking in hot springs, exploring historic sites, and anything else you can come up with. Our schedule is flexible so we can customize the trip to your interests.

Day 6: We’ll arrive at our takeout in the afternoon and have a 2-hour drive to Salmon, Idaho. You can spend the night in Salmon and enjoy a fair well dinner that evening, or catch an evening flight with Salmon Air to Boise.

Trip Logistics

Most trips begin at the Boundary Creek launch site, several hours from Stanley, Idaho. You should plan on staying in Stanley the night before your trip begins. We'll have an informal get together that evening to hand out gear and go over any last minute details. The next morning we'll drive to Boundary Creek for the start of our six wonderful days on the river.

August trips begin and end in Salmon, Idaho. Fly into Boise, ID, then take Salmon Air Taxi (800 448-3413) from Boise to Salmon. The morning after your trip ends take Salmon Air Taxi back to Boise in time to make your connecting flight.

Due to low water levels, some late summer trips may launch from Indian Creek launch site, 24 miles below Boundary Creek. If this is necessary, we will meet you in Boise, Idaho the night before your trip and you will fly directly to Indian Creek the next morning. Indian Creek is only accessible by plane, and there will be an $75 charge for the scenic flight from Boise. We will notify you as soon as possible if your trip will be launching from Indian Creek.

At the end of the trip, we will provide transportation from the takeout to Salmon, Idaho. You can spend the night in Salmon and fly out the next morning, or choose to catch an evening flight to Boise with Salmon Air Taxi.

The Middle Fork of the Salmon River trips begins in Stanley, Idaho and ends in Salmon, Idaho. Make your reservations in Stanley for the night before your trip at the Mountain Village Lodge 1 800 843-5475 and in Salmon the night you end your trip at the Stagecoach Inn 1 208 756-2919.

General Information

Included: Meals beginning with lunch on the first day, and use of our sleeping bags, pads, and tents (or bring your own gear and receive a $40 discount). We provide vehicle transportation to and from the river. Trips in late August and September will launch from Indian Creek and there will be a $75 charge for the flight to the river.

Air: Most major airlines have connections into Boise. Salmon Air Taxi provides flights from Boise to Salmon, 1-800-448-3413.

Car: If you are driving your own car, or renting one in Boise, you can arrange to have it shuttled around to meet you at the end of your trip. River Rat Express (208-774-22650) will shuttle private and rental cars.

Hotel: Please make hotel reservations at the Mountain Village Lodge in Stanley the night before the trip, and at the Stagecoach Inn in Salmon or Best Western Vista Inn in Boise the day your trip ends.
