Middle Fork of the Salmon River Suggested Gear

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

THIS IS THE SUGGESTED GEAR LIST FOR THIS PARTICULAR TRIP. HAVING THE RIGHT GEAR IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE IT THE BEST POSSIBLE EXPERIENCE FOR YOU. MOST OF THE GEAR LISTED YOU WILL HAVE OR YOU CAN USE IT YEAR-ROUND ON ANY OUTDOOR EXCURSION (FOOTBALL GAMES, BOATING, SKIING, ETC.) WE WANT YOU TO HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED TO BE COMFORTABLE, HOWEVER, PLEASE BE AWARE WE HAVE LIMITED SPACE AND WEIGHT CAPACITY ON THIS TRIP. Please feel welcome to give us a call to discuss your gear needs.

PLEASE NO STEREOS, RADIOS, CELL PHONES OR WATCHES

GEAR PROVIDED: LIFE JACKET, 2 WATERPROOF DUFFEL BAGS (one for sleeping bag, pad and ground cloth and one for clothing), WATERPROOF DAY BAG for items you would like accessible during the day (dry shirt, suntan lotion, camera, etc.). You can use our sleeping bags, pads and tents, or bring your own and receive a discount.

  • SLEEPING BAG, PAD, TENT and GROUND CLOTH (plastic or nylon sheet for laying your sleeping bag & personal gear on when not using a tent), or use ours.
  • RAIN GEAR ...2 piece with hood is best (avoid cheap plastic, vinyl, or poncho styles)
  • LIGHTWEIGHT SHIRTS ...one long sleeved for sun protection.
  • 1 or 2 PAIRS OF LONG PANTS
  • LONG UNDERWEAR synthetic is much better than cotton! Bring 2 sets for early trips.
  • SHORTS...lighter material dries fast, good to wear over swimsuit
  • SWIMSUIT...nylon or other quick-dry fabrics are best.
  • CAP & WARM WOOL HAT & BANDANAS ...a must for everyone. In case of wind attach with clip or a shoe string.
  • WARM JACKET...some evenings are cool. Synthetic piles are popular because they are warm even when damp.
  • SOCKS, 3-4 PAIR...one heavy (wool) for hiking.1 more wool for wearing under your tennis shoes in cool spring weather.
  • THIN LINER SOCKS...nylon or synthetic, not cotton for hiking
  • RUNNING SHOES OR HEAVY WALKING SHOES...2 pairs recommended-one to wear on the river (wet) and one dry.
  • RIVER SANDALS OR AQUA SOCKS – (optional- work great instead of running shoes)
  • SUNGLASSES, TIES FOR GLASSES, an extra pair of prescription glasses if worn.
  • SUNTAN LOTION ... sun block of maximum strength. Also moisturizing lotion.
  • SMALL DAY OR FANNY PACK... nice for side excursions.
  • 1 LITER WATER BOTTLE
  • POCKET KNIFE
  • CHAPSTICK
  • BIODEGRADABLE SOAP if possible, HEAD TOWEL, SHAMPOO
  • INSECT REPELLENT
  • FLASHLIGHT...small one works fine. Headlamps work great.
  • CAMERA AND FILM...bring more than you think you will need, just in case.
  • FISHING EQUIPMENT if desired. No barbed, trebble hooks or bait is allowed.
  • ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE, if desired (plastic or aluminum containers are best).

We provide a major 1st Aid Kit, however we do recommend you bring your own preferred personal comfort drugs (Advil, Tylenol, Aspirin, Band-Aids, cold medicine).
