Family River Vacation

A river trip is an ideal way for families to spend time together and reconnect, away from the hassles and distractions of phones, TVs, and computers. River trips are also unique family vacations, because there are so many activities that are enjoyable for both parents and children. Kids and adults both have a great time - there are lots of opportunities to do things together, as well as peaceful, quite times for parents. No experience necessary, our guides are experts at making you feel at home.

WRO Family Recommendations:

The Main Salmon River and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River are both great family river trips. Activities vary...oar and paddle rafts and inflatable kayaks options so you can set your own excitement level in the rapids, fishing, visiting pioneer homesteads, swimming, soaking in hot springs, viewing Indian pictographs, great hiking, and a chance to see many types of wildlife.

The Main Salmon River is excellent for children 8 years old and older. The whitewater is class III, exciting but not intimidating. The water is warm enough for lots of swimming, and the camping is on beautiful sandy beaches, which are perfect for games and room for romping. All in all the Main Salmon is the perfect family river trip. We can do some instructional mountain climbing on this trip...both rappelling and climbing, for those who wish to give it a try.

The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is great for children a little older...12 years of age and older. Younger children would be comfortable on our August trips. It is a class IV whitewater river - wild in June, moderate in August. The camps are on beautiful benches overlooking the river, some sandy, some grassy. The water is generally to cold for swimming in June and July but by August the water warms up and is very refreshing. The scenery is more lush and temperatures generally a little cooler because it is a higher elevation. Fishing is excellent and many nice hot springs for soaking.

Discounts for Children: Children 12 years of age and under receive a 30% discount, and group discounts and charter trips are also available for families.
